Austria and Serbia Call Ups

Postby Inara on August 29th, 2008, 10:38 pm

France's qualifiers for the 2010 WC will be starting in two weeks. First up is Austria on September 6th, and then Serbia on September 10th. Neither of them will be easy. Serbia is always a tough team to play against while we saw Austria punch above their weight in Euro 2008.

These games are also important in the sense that the results will directly effect Domenech's job.

Gardiens de but:
Hugo Lloris (Lyon)
Steve Mandanda (Marseille)

Défenseurs:
Eric Abidal (Barcelona)
Gaël Clichy (Arsenal)
Patrice Evra (Man Utd)
Rod Fanni (Rennes)
William Gallas (Arsenal)
Philippe Mexès (Roma)
Bakary Sagna (Arsenal)
Sébastien Squillaci (Sevilla)

Milieux de terrain:
Hatem Ben Arfa (Marseille)
Alou Diarra (Bordeaux)
Lassana Diarra (Portsmouth)
Mathieu Flamini (Milan)
Yoann Gourcuff (Bordeaux)
Sidney Govou (Lyon)
Florent Malouda (Chelsea)
Samir Nasri (Arsenal)
Jérémy Toulalan (Lyon)

Attaquants:
Nicolas Anelka (Chelsea)
Karim Benzema (Lyon)
Thierry Henry (Barcelona)

Unsurprisingly, both Diarras got called up, but so did Gourcuff again, this time in tandem with Ben Arfa and Nasri. So that will be interesting. It's Mandanda and Lloris again. Frey's little outburst didn't do him any favors, except Domenech saying that Frey trying to retire is irrelevant. No Boumsong this time either.

Actually, a team with a mix of old experienced good players and young talented players like Les Bleus, should easily win of Serbia and Austria. And I'm not under estimating those countries, but France is just not acting like it actually can do, maybe because of Domenech I don't know

I hope they will do well
And hopefully Justin.Tv broadcasts the matches

Serbia are smart defensively and won't allow the acres of space like Ben Arfa and Nasri are used to creating. And everyone remembers the mind-f@#k mediocrity of Austria at the European Championships. Two wins I reckon. 1-0 over Serbia with a goal from Malouda on as a sub, and 2-1 over Austria with Nasri and Henry.
